When most people walk into the showroom at Ohio Roofing & Siding, they are often overwhelmed by the number of options when it comes to windows. With a variety of shapes, sizes, and styles to choose from, you can find the right window to fit the needs of every room of your home.
Here’s a complete list of the types of windows and how they can best function in your home.
Stationary Windows
This is a basic window that does not open but can be installed to fit any shape or angle in your home.
Double-Hung Windows
These windows can be opened by sliding it up and down, or releasing the side latches so you can swing the window inward. Swinging the window inward makes it easy to clean the outside of the window, especially if there isn’t easy access outdoors.
Casement Windows
These hinged windows open outward by using a crank. They can be hinged on either the left or right side of the window.
Awning Windows
This unique window is hinged at the top and swings outward to let air in. They are commonly installed above or below stationary windows, but can also be installed alongside them.
Picture Windows
These large stationary windows let in a great deal of light and are ideal for rooms that face breathtaking landscape or natural scenery.
Transom Windows
Mounted above fixtures such as doors, windows or even bath tubs, transom windows are narrow and be either stationary or fitted with hinges.
Slider Windows
These windows slide (as the name suggests) from side to side and are commonly found in modern and contemporary homes.
Bay Or Bow Windows
These windows enlarge your interior space because they extend past the siding of your home. They’re often a combination of window types including stationary, double-hung and casements.

Home builders rely on vinyl siding because of its versatility, durability and cost.
While vinyl siding is weather resilient, it does need to be cleaned occasionally to prevent mold and mildew growth. Here are some cleaning solutions you can prepare yourself:
- Use a 70-30 ratio of water to vinegar. This mixture will remove light mold and erase mildew stains.
- If you need a stronger solution, mix 1/3 of a cup of powdered laundry detergent, 2/3 of a cup of powdered household cleaner, one quarter of laundry bleach and a gallon of water. Beware, this solution may kill some of the landscaping near your home.
- To preserve your landscaping, mix one cup of oxygen bleach with a gallon of water.
- Simple Green is also environmentally friendly and will clean vinyl siding, stucco, and painted wood.
To apply these solutions, simply use a soft cloth or a soft-bristle brush. You can also use a power washer, but some vinyl siding manufacturers advise against this practice.
